The Dutch armed forces contribute to freedom, safety, and welfare in the Netherlands and abroad. When on mission and during the excercise operations they need to withstand many physical and mental challenges. Next to excellent equipment and proper training, food plays a crucial role in well-being of the military. Check out the video to find out more about this challenge.
Your challenge is to design a concept that is sustainable, satisfactory to the military, and suits with the food-requirements set by the Ministry of Defence.
Sustainability
The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions, lower food impact and use recycled and recyclable materials as well as renewable energy sources.
Satisfaction
The goal is to enhance the food experience satisfaction. Think about the presentation, the temperature, or other elements.
Suitability
The goal is to develop a user-friendly concept that is functional in supplying meals to many people. Additionally, when food is prepared in the field, the food preparation system should fit the way of operation of the military.
11 weeks of online and 4 face to face activities.
The challenge consists of 4 events, that take place over the course of 11 weeks. Each event will take place at a different location throughout the Netherlands. Note that the duration of every event is the whole day, meaning 09:00 - 21:00 (including sleepover during the first event)!
Join the course, and solve a real-life problem with peers from UU, TU/e and WUR. In addition, earn 7.5 ECTS!
The Food for Health and Safety Challenge gives you an opportunity to solve a real-life problem while working on your personal and professional skills. It consists of inspiring masterclasses, exciting team-building activities and individual coaching. Join to broaden your network, collaborate with peers from different universities and get acquainted with the work field! A bonus: upon the completion of the course you will get 7.5 study points.
The course is designed for master students of TU/e, WUR and UU. However, bachelor students are also able to participate. The challenge calls for interdisciplinary collaboration. We are looking for students with knowledge on food, technology, and user-experience, as well as creative-thinkers, bridge builders, team leaders and other!
